3 years ago I published the “9 Principles to Design the Future of Learning”. Since then, some authors used them as a reference point in their books & articles. I have used these design principles for my leadership courses in two different universities. I am on an accelerated journey of transformation (self and service) with “5D Conscious Business Model Design”, “The Heroines” labs and “Children First World” intergenerational academies and “Conscious Learning Tribe” Mind to Heart programs. Although learner groups, learning formats and goals are different, I observe patterns that are emerging, so visible, yet so missed.

That’s why I write this post as an upgrade with further insights on design principles for learning.

“Learning by BEING.”

Let’s call it principle #0. Without this, there is no point of counting the others.

To be clear; it is not about doing. Nor trying. It is all about Being.

Not being in the learning journey. It is being the journey.

What do I mean?

All experience is learning; it is a posture toward experience, a philosophy at the personal level.

For example, conscious leadership (or partnership or parenting …etc) depends as much on good character as good behavioral skills, as well as being present, intentional and how expansive the person is in consciousness. Simply there’s a spiritual element to it, as well as mind, body and heart. This kind of learning is personal/present/continual and relational.

Being refers to the whole person:

All the time, all areas of life

All levels of awareness

It’s interpersonal/connected

How does learning by being work? It is an organic quality and it is how we are naturally. Like water. Fluid. It is an authentic way of living and being.

Let’s say you are an entrepreneur with a mission to fight against climate change. 3 questions I’d ask;

1-What are you doing? This one is the easiest to observe-objective and visible. All you need is some attention, reflection and discipline: Are you living, eating, talking, in line with your mission, with your prayer?

2-What are you thinking? Pause for a moment and watch your ideas. Watch them as they are popping up one after another…
